Summary
On Oct 15, 2026, from approximately 15:36 UTC until 18:03 UTC, Printix customers could not sign in, and printing, including print release, was unavailable. At first the signs pointed to a sign-in problem only, and our first update at 15:56 UTC described it that way. We confirmed that printing was also failing at approximately 16:58 UTC and moved the status page to a full outage at 17:33 UTC. Because the full scope was not clear early on, updates after the first post came later than they should have. Some workstations took a little longer to reconnect once service was restored. Print jobs that were not held for secure release and were queued on a workstation may have printed after it reconnected.
Root cause
The outage was caused by unscheduled maintenance carried out by our third-party database provider. While the provider’s database service was unavailable, the Printix sign-in service could not connect to it, and sign-in and printing failed. The cause was on the provider’s side, not in our own systems or configuration. When service returned, a large number of workstations reconnected at the same time, which briefly slowed recovery further.
Resolution
Our engineers traced the sign-in failures to the lost database connection and opened a case with the provider. When the provider completed its maintenance, connections returned automatically. We monitored the affected services while the load settled, and sign-in and printing were fully restored at approximately 18:03 UTC. We have requested a written root cause analysis from the provider and will update this write-up if it adds to what is described here.
